Supply Chain Management: All You Need to Know

Supply Chain for the Common Man The COVID-19 pandemic not only brought infections of unprecedented proportions, but it also brought to fore some business functions that we were blissfully unaware of, until now. Supply Chain — exactly what many people have been asking and looking up on search engines. The answer had to be something that people can relate. But let me ask a question instead — Is there something you wanted to buy, but can’t find it in the market? The answer every time would be a resounding “yes.” Supply chains are what brings a product from the point of assembly or manufacturing to the end user. And what happens from start to end is what supply chain management is all about. Examples Where Supply Chain Management is Utilized You are not here for bookish definitions. True. Neither is supply chain management contained anymore in simple computer programs or on-premise legacy ERP software. Supply chains have been through evolutionary changes in the past few years. ...

Samsung Galaxy S3 chimes for iPhone 5

Stakes are running high as the Samsung Galaxy S3 (III) approaches its release. The most talked about aspect being 4.6 inch or a larger screen size with 720x1,280 pixels crammed in – at par with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. If Korean news sources are to be believed, the panel might not be same as on the Nexus – the Samsung Galaxy S3 will sport a Super AMOLED Plus display . The bottom line is that the S3 will have a screen technology that will be crispier than the Galaxy Nexus. Those who were speculating a 3D display, Samsung has definitely played spoilsport by suggesting that 3D is still a no-go for the Galaxy. Tech lovers are, however, keeping their eyes fixed on the specs of the flagship S3 - in the hope that it will set Apple to pause prior to the launch of the much hyped iPhone 5. As a flagship model, we can expect the Samsung Galaxy S3 packing in some extra punches against the specs of the iPhone 5. Given the success Galaxy S2 has enjoyed, take it a little easy on your ...

Google Goggle - Decoding Google Glass

Looks like your high-end smartphone may soon be redundant and out of fashion! How about a pair of slim glasses which lets you text, mail, listen to music, take pictures, get the latest weather reports – while on the move? It’s augmented reality and wearable technology we are talking about! Named Google Project Glass , the deceptively simple sci-fi type pair of glasses is a concept device from Google X , the secret lab of Google. In a Google+ post, the Googlers behind the concept wrote, "A group of us from Google[x] started Project Glass to build this kind of technology, one that helps you explore and share your world, putting you back in the moment. We're sharing this information now because we want to start a conversation and learn from your valuable input. So we took a few design photos to show what this technology could look like and created a video to demonstrate what it might enable you to do." The digital prototype glasses in the video, a user looks d...

High megapixel point-and-shoot camera vs. low-end DSLR

Fully automatic sounds too good. Just hit the shutter release and you are done. Your point-and-shoot camera does it all for you. The best thing about these cameras is also their weak point. It takes all the control off your hands. The output is controlled by the camera. DSLRs on the other hand give you all the control you want. You are in charge of the output as well. However, set the control to AUTO and hand it to your 10-year old. The job is still done.  So, which one's better?  Technically, DSLRs are the best. You can customize the easy-to-use buttons and focus where you want to. Change the lens to meet your requirement, and you call it an upgrade. Point-and-shoot cameras have a fixed lens and they really are no match for the optically superior DSLR lenses.  Are all point-and-shoot cameras really bad?   That isn't true either! When photgraphy skills are questionable, point-and-shoot cameras come in really handy. They offer speed to the user. Ease of use. Easy to...

HP Mini 110 Series 110-3733TU Review

Typing, handling and the physicality are great on this one from the HP Mini stable in the 110 series . Well, what else are you looking for? It's a netbook and means and works exactly as what the primary specifications say. Speed Processor remains the same - Intel Atom Dual Core 1.66 GHz, but the 2GB RAM with a upped 1333MHz one, so easily outperforms others in the class. Not that you should make it your primary PC or depend on it for all your computing needs. Let's not touch on the specification, they are everywhere on the Internet. I'll just write what I came across while using the HP 110-3733TU. If I buy it, the first thing I'll do is get rid of the nursery standard OS and get something which is easy on the resources. Read on, I'll tell you why. For those of who would want, as a result of budget constraint, to make the netbook do your photo-editing jobs or the DSLR slingers, here's the verdict. You won't be able to run the latest Photoshop suites. The mi...
I had installed Windows VISTA Beta version with a dual boot option so that I could alternatively use my Windows XP. To my horror, just after two days I was unable to boot into my Windows XP partition. The only thing I had transferred was my TCP/ IP settings. However, I had copied the data from the My Documents folder to a different drive. The next obvious thing I tried was to reinstall Windows XP. I was in a for a shock: I was unable to boot from my XP CD. What actually happens is that after loading VISTA, the MBR is written as of VISTA's and hence you cannot boot from the XP CD. I tried several other things, but I failed. I tried to boot from the Windows 2003 Server Edition CD. It was successful but however, I could not install in the partition that VISTA used. I had to install it in a different drive. It helped, but then, I wanted my Windows XP. Read on!! After installing Windows 2003 Server, I decided to boot from the Windows 2003 Server CD again. But this time instead of choosi...

Computer Sound Troubleshooting

When you use your personal computer as a Hi Fi system and suddenly the sound is gone altogether...what's there you can do. The trouble is more acute when it's the dead of the night and the warranty of your PC has expired!  Here are some easy and simple steps you can perform which may positively restore your PC:   1. Check the line-out port ( usually a green jack ) on the back panel of the PC.   2. Update the sound driver from the Device Manager.   3. Uninstall the Sound Driver and reinstall without restarting the PC.   4. Type services.msc in the 'run' from the start menu to check the status.   5. Restart the PC and go to the BIOS to check onboard audio.   6. If the above steps have landed you nowhere, do a system recovery.

Monitor gone bad: no red color on the display

I bought a new Dell M781p monitor, but within 2 days, it went dark; with no red color ! It took me off my chair. My immediate choice was calling the servicing guy, but before that I wanted to give it a try myself. I did not have a spare system, so I took it to my friend's place and connected my monitor. Voila! It was working perfectly. The first guess! Faulty pins at the tower end........I ran a thorough check but found nothing wrong. I brought my friend's monitor and plugged it in, and again there was no red color. We agreed that it was something internal. Now the actual diagnosis begins: 1. RAM- ran the system check utility for RAM which takes almost 3 hours. Result - RAM ok. 2. Reassembled the entire PC - took out the processor, and everything else. Note: Graphics was through onboard graphics PCI Express 3. I use an AMD mainboard, so connected to AMD Live, and flashed the bios, and updated all the firmware. Result - There was a dramatic improvement in performance but still t...

HCL takes a BigLeap with MiLeap X Laptop

Priced at a modest and envious one rupee less than Rs.14000/-, HCL takes the plunge into low cost laptop manufacturing. The base version is powered by an Intel Celeron 900MHz processor sporting the Linux Operating system. The MiLeap supports both disk based and flash based memory, which means your laptop would still be safe without being on your lap. HCL promises the user of a feature-rich experience with the MiLeap. One of best feature is the ruggedness of the MiLeap. Swing it, bang it, or smooch it, data remains intact. There are decent color options to choose from. Men would rather prefer the rich black and leave the pink beauty for their female counterparts. And there is the cool blue for the generation Y, which seemingly is the target audience. There could be some disappointment for the graphics freaks but, for the corporate user, the MiLeap should be more than enough to keep in touch or running some decent applications. It remains to be seen how the prospective buyers react to th...
